6 Creative Beauty Uses for Cotton Swabs

Sometimes the simplest things are the most useful. That’s certainly true of the ordinary cotton swab. There are literally dozens of uses for these versatile sticks, but here are six of their best beauty tricks. Intrinsics provides you with top quality cotton swabs and other products for all of your beauty needs.

Perfume Touch-ups

Spray the ends of cotton swabs with your favorite scent and then place them in a baggie. They hold the aroma for hours, so use them during the day and early evening to refresh your perfume. Simply rub the end of the swab on your pulse points. These are:

  • behind your ears
  • your wrists
  • bottom of your throat.

Using cotton swabs is much more convenient than taking an expensive glass bottle of perfume along with you.

Lip Lining

Tired of bleeding lipstick? Stop wandering lipstick in its tracks with a cotton swab and translucent powder. Simply dip the swab in the powder, and line your lips. The powder keeps your lipstick in place, blocking it from bleeding.

The Eyes Have It

Cotton swabs easily fix all sorts of eye makeup issues. Dip a cotton swab gently in dark eye shadow and use it to fill in your brows. Create that smudgy look by gently loosening the cotton at one end of the swab, then rubbing it in the eyeshadow. Apply the eyeshadow from the base of your lashes up to the eye crease and you’ve got that sexy smudginess. Of course, cotton swabs fix all matter of eye makeup mistakes. Use them to:

  • Fix clumped mascara
  • Smooth out eyeliner
  • Dip them in eye makeup remover and get rid of stubborn bits.

If you wear false eyelashes, use cotton swabs to apply the adhesive. As with perfumed swabs, rub swabs into your favorite eyeshadows and put them in a baggie for quick touch-ups during the day.

Nail Tales

A cotton swab dipped in nail polish remover gets rid of any polish that landed on your skin rather than fingernails or toenails. Swabs are a great way to create nail art. Just twist the ends to a point before dipping them into nail polish and you have an excellent brush for your nail canvas.

Eradicate Caking

If your foundation tends to cake, keep some cotton swabs on hand along with a bit of moisturizer and get rid of the clogged bits.

Avoid Germs

If you use cream lipsticks, eyeshadows and the like, putting your fingers in the jars for application passes the bacteria on your hands into your makeup. Use cotton swabs for application instead, and keep your makeup more sanitary.
